Callie's Picks Issue No.34 REVIEW

Today, as expected, we were given a brand new collection of Callie's Picks. The theme was "Moves Like Jagger", the majority of the collection is 70's/boho inspired, much like that of the style of Mick Jagger during his prime.

Here are my thoughts...

At first glance, the store is pretty much looking as I would expect; a clusterfuck of archived Starplaza pieces desperately trying to match the particular style swatch. "Moves Like Jagger" is a pretty stretched theme (running out of ideas, Callie? Probably should have stuck to Archive *cough*) and most of the pieces were very lackluster. A stronger 70's theme would have been a lot more pleasing; flared jeans, big belts, platform shoes etc., granted we did see some of the aforementioned pieces in the collection, but they seemed just slightly out of place.

The whole feel of the store comes across as a little "washed out" to me. I would have to liked to have seen brighter colours, a more fun vibe. I understand that the collection was set on being laid back and more boho chic, but it's just boring and dull to me.

The standout pieces from "Moves Like Jagger" would be the bags. Many of the bags are sporting glorious prints, and are each interesting in their unique way. The wrath of maxi dresses/skirts is a little overwhelming, not to mention they all look awfully drab. Some of the shoes fall way outside of the specific criteria for this collection and are somewhat too glamorous for the otherwise carefree feel.

The graphics included in this collection aren't the worst I've seen, surprisingly. Some layers are just a bit sloppy, but the majority of the pieces are well shaded and fit the doll nicely. In terms of prints, we got more than we bargained for in this issue, and they are mostly of poor quality, looking rushed and carelessly hand drawn.

Instead of sticking to the 70's Jagger aesthetic, Stardoll decided to cater to a far more gullible audience and delivered us something more Forever 21, Coachella 2014-esque, which is disappointing to say the least.

That being said, I did manage to pluck out 4 pieces in the act of an impulse buy - they are;

(1) 70's Jeans (2) 70s Platform Shoes (3) Beatrix Bag (4) Candie's Distressed Jeans

Overall, I rate "Moves Like Jagger" Issue no.34 of Callie's Picks 3/5 stars.

*****

And now my hopes fold over to issue No.35, please spite me no more, Callie.
